Off-the-shelf staircase light fixtures come in fixed cord lengths, usually 3ft to 6ft, which work for standard rooms and fail completely in tall stairwells. The cord length is set during production to your specification, so the fixture arrives ready to install at exactly the drop your stairwell needs. **How to measure your staircase drop:** 1. Measure from the ceiling fixing point to the floor of the lowest visible stair or landing below. 2. Subtract the height of the fixture itself (listed on each product page). 3. The remaining number is your required cord length. 4. Add 6 inches if you want the fixture to appear to float; subtract 6 inches if you want it to sit lower and more grounded.
