When we first worked with Assistant Set Decorator Francesca Caruso during the film's production, she mentioned that she would love to share photos of the set once the project officially premiered.

So when Little Brother, the Netflix comedy starring John Cena and Eric André officially began streaming, we reached out to Francesca to celebrate the release. She kindly followed up with production stills of the set and gave us the green light to share the behind-the-scenes magic.

The Placement

Francesca selected our 16 inch Bottleneck ceramic flush mount for the mudroom of Rudd's house, the main character's home in the film. The mudroom is a transitional space in the set design, a hallway between the outside world and the warmth of the interior. Dark blue walls, a white panelled door with glass panes, a patterned rug, and the Bottleneck flush mount at the ceiling, casting a warm copper glow downward across the room.

It is a subtle placement. Exactly the kind a good set decorator makes. The lamp is not the point of the scene. It is part of why the scene feels real.

Francesca noted in her message that it is hard to believe the set is a stage build and not a real house. That is the standard production designers and set decorators work to, and every object in the room contributes to that illusion. The Bottleneck was chosen because it belonged there.

On Being Chosen

A lamp made by us in Bengaluru, handthrown and fired, packed and shipped to a production set in the United States, chosen by a Set Decorator who needed it to feel like it had always been in that house.

That is the thing about handcrafted ceramic work. It carries the quality of something that has been somewhere and belonged there. It does not look installed. It looks found.

We are grateful to Francesca and the Gin Joint Productions team for choosing Naaya and for reaching out to share this with us after the film's release.
