Dushala Handmade Clay Wall Sconce | Sculptural Ceramic Wall Light
Dushala takes its name from the Hindi word for shawl, and the form follows the name exactly. A single sheet of clay wraps the light the way a shawl wraps a shoulder, drawn diagonally from front to back and folded through to the front again in one continuous layered fall. There is no seam or joint to break the motion, only one gesture of clay caught mid drape, left open at the fold to let warm light spill upward and downward along the wall.
The wrap is what gives Dushala its dual glow. As the clay crosses itself front to back to front, it opens two soft apertures, one low and one high, so the sconce lights the wall above and below itself in a warm, elongated spread rather than a single flat glow. Seen straight on, it reads as sculpture. Seen from the side, the wrap and the fold reveal themselves, and the shawl becomes obvious.
