Handmade Ceramic Geometric Lights

Perforated and cut out pendants, sconces and lamps that cast patterned shadows

All About Ceramic Lights

What Are Geometric Lights?

Geometric lights are defined by clean edges, faceted planes and repeating shapes. Geometric lighting works well in a modern room because the form stays interesting when the light is off. Ceramic suits it, since the material holds sharp lines while the glaze or natural clay finish adds warmth. A geometric lamp can be the quiet focal point of a space, or a pattern that echoes other shapes in the room.

Cut Out and Perforated Lamps

Cut out lamps let light pass through openings in the ceramic, so the room fills with patterned shadows as well as a soft glow. A perforated lamp changes character through the day, subtle in daylight and dramatic at night. The same idea works at every scale, from a perforated pendant over a stair to a ceramic cut out table lamp beside a bed.

Choosing the Right Piece

Match the form to the space. Geometric pendant lights and hanging lamps suit ceilings with open height. Wall sconces work in hallways and beside beds, where the pattern can fall across a plain wall. Flush mounts fit lower ceilings, and table lamps bring the cut out detail to side tables and consoles. Choose one statement shape, then repeat its pattern in a smaller piece.

Placement and Finish

Patterned shadows show best on a plain, pale surface, so keep busy wallpaper or shelving out of the light path. Leave some space around each piece, so the pattern has room to spread. With fifteen finishes available, lighter tones give a soft, airy glow and deeper tones add contrast. Hang two or three pendants together for a stronger geometric effect.

Care and Maintenance

Ceramic ceiling lights are naturally low-maintenance. A simple, regular dusting is usually enough to keep them clean. ⚠️ Important: Never use sticky tapes on the surface of the lamp—whether matte or painted—as they can permanently damage the finish. For stains on matte surfaces, clean gradually rather than trying to remove them in one step. Use mild soap water and a clean white cloth, gently wiping the surface and letting it dry before repeating if necessary. Avoid aggressive scrubbing, as this can harm the finish. It’s normal for clay to appear darker when wet; it will return to its original color once dry. For deeper cleaning, a slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Always avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals to preserve both the painted finishes and the natural clay body. Installation Flush and semi-flush ceiling lights must be installed by a qualified electrician. Please caution them against using tape on the surface of the lamp for markings, as this may damage the finish. Also, remind your installer that ceramic fixtures are heavier than standard lights and must be secured properly—either on the junction box or directly into wooden studs beneath a false ceiling, and never fixed on plasterboard alone without reinforcement. For added protection, we recommend keeping the wrapper on the lamp until the final installation is complete, whenever possible. Frequently Asked Questions Can I use dimmable bulbs? Yes.
